Bethesda's Newest Luxury Community on the Former WMAL Radio Site
Amalyn is a luxury master-planned community of about 304 residences in Bethesda, developed by Toll Brothers and Tri Pointe Homes on a roughly 75-acre site at Greentree Road and the Capital Beltway. The planned mix includes approximately 154 single-family homes, 110 market-rate townhouses, and 40 moderately priced dwelling units (MPDUs). The land was home to the WMAL-AM 630 radio transmitter station from 1941 until 2018 — four nearly 400-foot steel broadcast towers that were a familiar local landmark for decades. The towers were demolished in November 2020, and the community name pays tribute to the station: “Amalyn” from “WMAL AM.” Street names Harden Alley and Weaver Alley honor the hosts of the beloved Harden and Weaver Show.
Amalyn offers modern elevator townhomes and upscale single-family homes. Townhomes start at about 2,600 square feet, while single-family homes range from roughly 4,600 to over 5,900 square feet. A Realtor who understands new-construction pricing, builder options, and resale value in Amalyn can help you evaluate the right fit.
Resort-style amenities include a 4,000-plus-square-foot clubhouse with indoor and outdoor fitness areas, a pool complex with cabanas and splash area, a sun deck, Zen garden, landscaped walking trails, and pocket parks. A red beacon from one of the original WMAL towers is preserved in the clubhouse as a tribute to the site's broadcasting heritage.
Amalyn is part of the Montgomery County Public Schools system. For current school assignments, visit the MCPS School Assignment Tool.
Always verify assignments with MCPS, as boundaries can change. A 4.3-acre school site is reserved within the community for potential future MCPS use.
