Founded in the 1960s — First Residents in 1968
River Falls is one of Potomac's most established and community-oriented neighborhoods, encompassing approximately 325 acres with 514 residences. Developed by Clarence W. Gosnell Inc., land acquisition began in 1963 and the first residents moved in May 1968 near the intersection of Stable Lane and Masters Drive. The community continued to grow over several decades, with homes built from the late 1960s through 2005.
The original homes were Colonial-style with New England-inspired model names like Concord, Hampshire, and Providence, built on half-acre lots. Many owners have renovated and expanded over the years. A newer section includes townhomes on smaller lots. Working with a Realtor who understands the differences between River Falls' original sections and newer development is key when buying or selling here.
River Falls is governed by three community organizations: the River Falls Community Club Association (RFCCA), which manages recreational facilities; the Civic Association of River Falls (CARF), which represents the community on civic matters; and the River Falls Home Owners Association (RFHOA), which manages common areas in the newest section.
