Tree-Lined Streets & Top-Rated Schools Inside the Beltway
Wyngate is a neighborhood of approximately 1,600 households in Bethesda, bounded roughly by the Capital Beltway (I-495) to the north, Old Georgetown Road to the east, Greentree Road to the south, and Fernwood Road to the west. The bulk of the housing stock dates to the late 1940s and 1950s, part of the post-WWII suburban expansion of Montgomery County. Original homes include Cape Cods, ramblers, colonials, and split-levels on quarter-acre lots with a mature tree canopy and sidewalked streets.
In recent years Wyngate has experienced significant teardown-and-rebuild activity, with builders replacing original homes with new construction of roughly 4,000 to 6,000 square feet in Craftsman, Colonial, and Modern Farmhouse styles. This creates an unusual dynamic: buyers can still find original mid-century homes alongside newer builds at substantially higher price points. A Realtor who knows the difference between original and new-construction value in Wyngate is essential.
Within the broader Wyngate area, the Drumaldry enclave (also known as the Courts of Wyngate) is a distinctive sub-community of 104 mid-century modern homes built in 1972 by Miller & Smith, Inc. and Builders Resources Corporation, designed by architect Nicholas A. Pappas, FAIA. The homes feature a “California Modern” style with board-and-batten siding, vaulted redwood ceilings, and brick privacy walls.
