About Burning Tree

Burning Tree is one of Bethesda's most established residential areas, encompassing approximately 700 households on large, wooded lots between River Road and Bradley Boulevard. The neighborhood takes its name from the Burning Tree Club, a private golf course founded in 1922 whose fairways wind through the heart of the community.

Residential development began in the early 1950s, with Burning Tree Valley (1951) and Burning Tree Estates (1953) among the first subdivisions. The area has evolved over the decades through waves of renovation and new construction, creating an architectural mix that ranges from original mid-century brick homes to modern custom estates. Large lot sizes—many over half an acre, some reaching 1.5 acres—are a defining characteristic.

Located inside the Capital Beltway, Burning Tree offers the rare combination of spacious, heavily treed properties with quick access to downtown Bethesda, the Metro Red Line, and major commuter routes into Washington, D.C.

A Neighborhood of Neighborhoods

Burning Tree is home to several distinct enclaves and subdivisions, each with its own character. From the custom homes of Frenchman's Creek on Deep Creek Court to the generous lots of Bradley Hills Grove, the area offers a range of settings unified by mature landscaping, privacy, and proximity to everything Bethesda has to offer.
